When did you open your start designing?

I have been designing now a little over 5 years. Some days, it seems like a lifetime and others just a short period of time.

What got you started in making your own creations?

I was a paper scrapper for about 7 to 8 years and the bulky albums were taking up so much space.   I had extra time and started reading about digital.   One day after many days of screaming and pulling out my hair, I did my first layout.   I haven’t looked back.   It wasn’t too long into doing digital that I purchased Photoshop.   I started reading anything I could get my hands one.   I started with a boy kit and thought I didn’t think I did too bad.   Then a started another kit and another.   I didn’t share with anyone, just read and learned and made product.  There was a call at a site I was hanging out at for a designer, I thought “oh someone to give me feedback” I was accepted into the store.  What a shock that was as I really didn’t think I was ready to be a designer.  I have been designing ever since.

What is your favorite kit that you have designed?

Now that is not a fair question to ask a designer.   I have many favorites, but if I can only list one it would probably be ME So Happy.  One of the reasons I really love this kit, is because I don’t normally do this style and when I did it made me Happy.  Also loved the layout I did with it.  You can find it here.

Sponsor Spotlight ~ Heritage Scrap

Heritage Scraps  is in the spotlight for September!

Heritage Scraps can be found here and you can read the store blog here.

When did you open?

We opened one year ago on August 1st.    We have a wonderful mix of seasoned designers and new designers – all of whom are extremely talented and offer our customers a cohesive, yet unique presentation of vintage, heritage and altered art products.

Why did you open a Digital Scrapbooking store?

I couldn’t find enough heritage style elements or kits.   Extractions weren’t as popular as they are now – and you had to learn to design everything from scratch.  I remember the first element I wanted to learn was a realistic, velvet bow.   I needed one and couldn’t find any to buy – so I dug through the Photoshop Tutorials at every site and then came across DigiScrapDesigner.  Tandika offered one of the most comprehensive collections of tutorials available back then.  I am also an alumni of her mentoring program – and I do credit that course for cementing my passion for digital scrapbooking design.

In July of 2008 I decided to open Heritage Scrap – and a month later we went live.  I had often spent hours scouring the stores to find heritage themed products.  I wanted to create a store filled with high quality heritage themed art.   When I put out my first designer call, I felt as if I were holding my breath.  I was so afraid no one would respond as I was virtually unknown.  This was not the case and as I said, we just celebrated a year in business and offer vintage, heritage and altered art products.

What is your favorite kit that you have designed?

My favorite so far is my kit entitled “The Civil War”.  My second favorite is the kit inspired by grandfather, “A Time Of War” .   I never thought I would design kits around battles, but when you are researching family one never knows where the inspiration will lead you.

What is your best selling product?

Our August Designer collab, Heritage Builders, is selling very well.   This collection offers 10 kits beautifully coordinated for the creation of family trees, family history charts and gorgeous certificates.    Linked by an antique color scheme drawn from a family tree chart circa 1890, this collection is a must have for the family researcher – and a great way to create meaningful, priceless gifts for family this holiday season.

Jill DZines is in the spotlight for August!

Jill’s designs can be found at Scrapbook Elements, Scrapdish and you can read her blog here.

When did you start designing?

Just a few months after I started digi-scrapping I began making some of my own papers and simple elements for my own use, and I knew immediately that I was going to want to do it professionally as soon as I could get my skill-level up. I just love experimenting and learning in Photoshop and Illustrator (as well as a few other prorams, lately) and I love playing with different color-combinations and styles - it is a big stress-reliever for me and I love the creative outlet! I think it was around the Fall of 2006 when I put my first product out at Scrap Outside the Box.

What got you started in making your own creations?

I signed up and worked through tuts at Tandika Starr’s designer-tut site, and went through a designer class that was offered at Scrap Outside the Box, and most of us who went through the class eventually sold our designs at Scrap Outside the Box.

What is your favorite kit that you have designed?

My favorite almost always seems to be the last one I made. My current favorites are Magical Morning - at ScrapDish.com, with it’s clean and bright colors, and the “Morning” theme and the sparkly and magical feel. My favorite at ScrapBook-Elements are 2 kits that semi-coordinate with each other - Shabby Little Miss and Shabby Little Man.

What is your best selling product?

My Favorite Boy and Whisper-Soft are pretty close, though My Favorite Boy is slightly ahead. Both kits did very well when they first came out, and both continue to sell regularly (though not as much as they did at first, of course), even though they are well over a year old.

When did you start designing? February, 2008

What got you started in making your own creations?  I discovered Digital Scrapbooking while searching for materials to create a book for my son. It wasn’t long before I became totally addicted -it was love at first try! When I found myself altering the items I bought it was time for me to start designing my own products. I love to see people use my designs and am passionate about creating unique and quality products for my customers.

What is your favorite kit that you have designed?  Jake.  It was my first boy kit and it is named after my son.  It was so much fun working with the colors in Jake to create the papers and elements!
